Where will you be in 5 years from now?

Saturday, March 14, 2009 - - 1 Comments

Try asking that to your friends and you might get 1 of these 2 responses. They look at you like you are someone wierd, or they might pause and think and give you a very very vague answer. I asked a friend and all i got was that she wanted to be happy, contented and successful.

I told her thats seems reasonable. then i asked her this question, are you happy, content and successful now ? she said yes i am, but in 5 years i want to be the same. Isn't that interesting, 5 years of doing and being exactly the same person, with no growth and no improvement and she wonders why she is so bored.

What about the people who are not happy and content with thier current life ? I find that there rarely is a change in thier lives 1-2 years down the road. cause they are alwayz doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result.

Albert Einstein once mention" The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Someone also once mentioned, Most people can see themselves 1-2 years from now, but they don't know where they will be 10 years from now

Have a vision, work towards it.

Purpose

Isn't it amazing how people who want to be successful, people who want to make alot of money, people who want to make a difference in the world are not doing anything about it? Sure, there are a few exceptions, the few who despite the odds manage to create an impact. While the rest just stay in awe and wonder why that individual was so lucky.

We all have infact the same obligation and perhaps even the same opportunities to live the lives of our dreams and create the difference that we seek. but we choose to settle for mediocre instead.

Or perhaps we all are looking for some inspiration, not inspiration from someone who we don't know, but inspiration from someone who are in contact with, someone whom we know could not, but now after a huge amount of effort, now can.............

Where will you be in a year from now?

Seth Godin wrote,

1. Learn something. Become an expert. For free, using nothing but time, you can become a master of CSS or HTML or learn Python. You can hit the library and read the entire works of important authors, or you can borrow some books from a friend and master Analytics or discover case studies and corporate histories that will be invaluable in a year. You could learn to become fluent in Spanish...

If you're a glass blower without a job, you can't do much glass blowing. But if you're a digital marketer between gigs, you can do a lot of digital marketing... build a tribe for your favorite non-profit and make it a case-study for an entire industry.

2. Earn a following and reputation. Use social networking tools to connect to people for no good reason. Post tons of useful answers on discussion boards where your expertise is valued. Build a permission asset in the form of an email newsletter or a fascinating blog that people want to read. Do resume makeovers for 100 friends. Start a neighborhood or industry book group. Don't go to conventions, earn the right to speak at them.

If you were as serious about these two endeavors as you are about doing your job (eight hours a day on a slow day), imagine how much more powerful and in demand you'll be a year from now.

Where will you in a year from now? I bet many people don't know, and best of all, they will be at the same place they are now....

The obligation

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 - - 0 Comments

This is a passage i got from this amazing book i am reading, and its by far the best book i've read. its a book by Seth godin and its called "tribes". I'll let you read this passage titled "The Obligation"

Not to far from us, a few blocks away, there are kids without enough to eat and without parents who care. A little further away, hours by plane, are people unable to reach thier goals because they live in a community that just doesn't have the infrastructure to support them. A bit further away are people being brutally persecuted by their governments. and the world is filled with poeple who can't go to high school, never mind college, and who certainly can't spend thier time focused on whether or not they get a good parking space at work.

And so, the obligation: don't settle.

To have all these advantages, all this momentum, all these opportunities and then settle for mediocre and then defend the status quo and the worry about corporate politics- what a waste.

Flynn Berry wrote that you should never use the word " opportunity," its not an opportunity, its an obligation.

I don't think we have any choice. i think we have an obligation to change the rules, to raise the bar, to play a different game and to play it better than anyone has any right to believe is possible.

I've read this passage over 20 times, and still it inspires me, what about you ?

What does your brand sound like?

Sunday, October 19, 2008 - - 0 Comments

This video made me think. As many of you know, if u want your brand to be remembered, it would be best if you can invoke all the 5 sense.

Most brands are very visual, ie. Big, bright and Colourfull. with lots of images. Thats good. But most of the time, they only invoke one of the senses, the visual sense, there are also brands that invoke the sense of taste. For example " Mango" the boutique. Just the word mango makes me think of the brand as sweet, juicy and vibrant. What about you? what does the Brand Mango make u think of ?

Won't it be great if you brand name sounds like your product as well ? Like for the video, if you were to notice, each vehicle from a different brand has its own unique sound. most of us rarely notice that. To be honest, i just realised it when i was watching this video.

Sometimes even though we don't notice the brand name of a car, we can tell if its a honda, toyota or any other. First mainly from its unique style and shape, and now from its sound as well.

So think about how you could associate your brand name to invoke the other senses? I'm sure it would give your brand the edge.

About this

Don't read this Blog all at once. There is alot of interesting information here and if you happen to read it in one sitting, it will give you a headache.

There are lots of great marketing websites, and blogs out there but most are very detailed and wordy. Like most books, they are designed if you want to master a single particular bit of knowledge. Loaded with graphs, research data and details to prove that what they are saying is infact correct.

Sandwich Marketing is NOT like those websites, blogs and books you might have read.

If you happen to search for the keyword marketing on google and want a long blog post with lots of research, your probably in the wrong place.

I'm certain you don't need another data filled website, blog or book on marketing. Perhaps what you need is something that is motivating, fun, and something that you can use in your daily life. If you are like most people who read blogs and articles, books and are looking for a spark, something to ignite ur passion and energy then you are at the right place.

Here's the deal, read a few posts, find what you like the most, tell you friends about this and run with it.

And lastly as my mentor Seth Godin says, If you're here for a little idea that could change everything. I think you will find it. Have fun !!
